Darius Garland signs what could be the biggest contract in Cavs’ history

Darius Garland’s agent, Rich Paul, confirmed Saturday that the 2021-22 All-Star had come to agreements on a five-year, $193 million maximum contract extension with the Cleveland Cavaliers. If Garland makes the All-NBA team next season the deal could rise to $231 million, which would be Cleveland’s most expensive contract in franchise history.

Garland was the No. 5 overall pick in 2019 NBA Draft. The guard is coming off the most stellar season of his young career, averaging 21.7 points, 8.6 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Garland shot 46.2 percent from the field and 38.3 percent from deep. Garland is the first Cavalier since Lebron James and Kevin Love to make the All-Star game too, two franchise legends.

The Cavaliers record increased drastically last year. They finished with a respectable record of 44-38 with Garland leading the pack, along side Big Man Jarrett Allen, and big time rookie Evan Mobley. Last year, the Cavaliers won more games than the previous two seasons combined and they were able to finish above .500 for the first time since LBJ’s last year. The future is looking bright in Cleveland
