Matt Ryan received one of the biggest QB contracts we have ever seen in the NFL. He agreed to a five-year contract extension that includes an average annual salary of $30 million, and $100 million in guaranteed money. Yes, Ryan was the NFL’s MVP in the 2016 campaign where he threw for 4,944 yards and 38 touchdowns to just seven interceptions, completing 69.9% of passes. The Falcons went 11–5 and won the NFC South. But in 2015 they finished at 8-8, finished at 6-10 in 2014, going 4-12 in 2013. But, in 2012 they went to the NFC championship where they lost against rookie quarterback Colin Kaepernick overcoming an early 17-0 deficit to beat the Atlanta Falcons 28-24. Throughout history, he was been one of the most consistent quarterbacks of all time in terms of yardage and production, but whenever the Falcons are on the grasp of something special, he is missing in action. There is no way he should be this inconsistent in the red-zone when their receiving core consists of Julio Jones, Mohamed Sanu, and rookie Calvin Ridley, who hauled in 3 touchdown passes in last weeks loss. Despite a great effort at home against the Saints where he had 26 completions for 35 attempts and 374 yards with 5 touchdowns and no interceptions, the Falcons ended up losing that game in overtime to Drew Brees and the Saints in a huge division game. Throughout history, when Matt Ryan had a 17-0 lead against the 49ers, and arguably the worst choke-job to occur in the modern era of sports in the blowing of the 28-3 lead with 8 minutes and 31 seconds left on the clock in the 4th quarter. The Falcons keep trying to adjust their quarterbacks to new schemes and coordinators to help their quarterback, but they never give the coordinator enough time. The longest time he has ever had with a coordinator is 4 years and that is with Mike Mularkey. He spent 2 years with OC Kyle Shanahan and had total numbers of seasons, 9,535 yards, 59 touchdowns, 23 interceptions and obviously won the 2016 MVP under him. After one season with Steve Sarkisian, he had 1 season (14 games), 65.2 completion percentage, 3,490 yards, 18 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, 92.0 quarterback rating. In his second campaign under Sarkisian, the Falcons have dropped to 1-2 and last in the  very strong NFC south after losing to the Saints. Not to mention the Browns had multiple opportunities to beat the Saints but obviously with the Zane Gonzalez situation they didn’t. Should Falcons fans be worried at the negative trends we are seeing within the team after Matt Ryan and the falcons blew the 28-3 lead as it seems like they are not making any progress and have declined? Or should Falcon’s fans look at the 2 last seasons that both resulted in one or more playoff wins. After the 8 minute and 31 second mark left in the 3rd quarter of SB51, Matt Ryan became a different player. He couldn’t control the moment and suffered such a devastating loss and blew the organization’s best shot by far to win its first title and with this being said, I think that after that point in time that we will never see the reliable, composed and clutch 2016 form of Matt Ryan that we saw until the second half of 51. A fan base in Atlanta can support a team that can make the playoffs but with this kind of money, a championship needs to be delivered now or never. To summarize this passage, I do not think that Matt Ryan’s contract extension is going to result in a Falcon’s Super Bowl because if you can’t be trusted with a 28-3 lead in the second half of the Super Bowl, than how can you ever win a Super Bowl, or 130 MILLION? Matty Ice’s future in Atlanta will most definitely result in a lot of great throws, catches, wins and playoff wins but not they will not win the “Big Game” with Ryan.
